A drawdown is a measure of the decline in price of an investment from the previous peak to the lowest subsequent price. A drawdown is usually quoted as the percentage between the peak and the subsequent bottom.

For example, a $1 million portfolio that falls to $800,000 at its lowest subsequent point has experienced a 20% drawdown.
